A Taste of History: An Evening at
The Elms
Gather five of your favorite people for an unforgettable evening of fine food, exceptional wine, and Henderson history at The Elms, one of Henderson’s most treasured historic homes.
Chef and baker Lowry Igleheart-Keach will welcome six guests to her beautiful mid-century home for an intimate four course dinner paired with carefully selected wines. And if you’re lucky, you may even be treated to Lowry’s locally famous Bourbon Brownies! Built in 1852 in the Federal style, The Elms has witnessed generations of Henderson history. Four generations of the Keach family have called this remarkable home theirs, and the house itself has stood through major milestones of US History including the Civil War, World War 1 and Prohibition. The original brick walls, detached kitchen house, smokehouse, and icehouse still tell the story of another era.
And our chef and historian will share another delicious piece of her history: The Igleheart family story reaches back to 1856, when three Igleheart brothers moved to Evansville and opened Igleheart Mill. Their family would go on to create Swan’s Down Cake Flour, a beloved American baking tradition. Lowry’s grandfather eventually moved to Greenwich, Connecticut, where he became President and Chairman of the Board of General Foods in New York City. That history comes full circle now as Lowry shares the legacies of both the Keach and Igleheart families along with her own talents as a chef and baker.
Six guests. One extraordinary evening. A historic home. Four exquisite courses. Fine wine. And a hostess with a family story worth savoring.

This impressive 5-bedroom, 4 bath retreat comfortably accommodates 12-15 adults, making it ideal for a family reunion, birthday celebration, girls’ weekend, guys’ fishing getaway-or simply a few days of doing absolutely nothing. Step outside and the fun begins. The cabin sits beside a 10-acre fishing lake, where you can spend the morning casting a line, take one of the available fishing kayaks out on the water, or simply sit back and enjoy the tranquility. With plenty of room to roam, relax and gather, this is the kind of place where the pace slows down and the memories begin. But perhaps the best part of this getaway is what the reviews say. Guests describe it as private, peaceful, beautiful and perfect for family gatherings, with one visitor calling it “a fabulous quiet weekend getaway.” Another simply summed it up. “Family gathering. Awesome!”

A Community Woven Together
an original quilt by Deirdre McConathy

Prepare to be drawn into a tapestry of color, creativity, and community. Designed and handcrafted by local quilt artist Deirdre McConathy, this extraordinary 70" wide by 86" long quilt is a striking example of her artistry and love of color, pattern, texture, and line.
While this quilt was created independently of AKZ, we couldn't help but see a beautiful story within its colorful strips and intricate design. A story that seems perfectly suited to the mission of AKZ. If you look closely, the vibrant strips can be imagined as the many children of AKZ; each unique, each bringing their own color and character to the whole.
The rows of colorful, book-like strips evoke the spines of treasured books, a fitting reflection of AKZ's commitment to reading, learning, and opening doors to new possibilities through education. The black-and-white patterned blocks create a framework for all those individual colors, while the intersecting strips suggest the countless relationships that hold a community together. Children, families, teachers, volunteers, donors, and friends. Different threads, woven together to create something stronger and more beautiful than any one thread could be alone.
And perhaps the greatest pleasure of this quilt is that you get to decide what story it tells. Do you see a neighborhood? A library filled with colorful books? A collection of individual lives coming together? Pathways connecting one person to another? Step closer and discover one detail; step back and discover an entirely different picture. At 70" x 86", this versatile work of art can be displayed as a dramatic wall hanging or enjoyed as a beautiful coverlet for a double or queen-size bed.
Deirdre's artistry invites us to consider not only what we see in a quilt, but what story may be held within its threads. For the Unlock the Future auction, we invite you to make this story your own. Bid on this piece of art. Take home a piece of the story. And help AKZ unlock a brighter future for children in our community.
